Smart Tilemap Builder
Unreal Engine plugin for painting 2D and 2.5D levels in the viewport, with auto-tiling, slopes and merged collision.

- Problem
- Building 2D levels tile by tile in Unreal is slow, and Paper2D has no auto-tiling.
- Built
- A full editing mode in the level viewport: you paint terrain, and the plugin picks the right tile, stacks the depth layers and rebuilds the collision live. Every stroke is a single undo step.
A C++ plugin for Unreal Engine 5.7 and 5.8, available on FAB. Watch it build a level in two minutes in the tutorial on my YouTube channel.
Seven tools, all on shortcuts
Brush, Eraser, Fill, Rectangle, Stamp, Select and Sprite. Hold Shift to erase with any tool, or Ctrl+click to pick the terrain or tile under the cursor. Select lets you move, copy, paste, delete and mirror.
Auto-tiling you configure once
- 4-bit (16 tiles) or 8-bit blob (47 tiles) neighbour matching
- One button generates the whole rule set from a standard sheet
- Weighted variants for visual variety, seeded per cell so they never flicker
Slopes and collision
- One button generates slope rules and their collision: every step you paint becomes a ramp, at 45°, 30° or custom heights
- Aligned tiles merge into as few boxes as possible, so a hundred tiles in a row become one collider
- One-way platforms you can jump through from below
- Top surfaces exported as tagged splines, ready for ledge detection or AI patrol paths
2.5D depth and parallax
Depth layers with their own offset, parallax, tint and collision, plus looping sprite scenes for skylines and clouds that preview their scrolling in the editor.
Procedural generation
Every painting operation is exposed to Blueprint and C++, with ready-made passes for seeded terrain and decor, so roguelike levels can be built at runtime with the same rules you paint by hand.
